Video Games, Visual Novels, Ingress

Interactive fiction just doesn't just stop at text based games. Some video games can actually be classified as interactive fiction. The definition of interactive fiction is software simulating environments in which players use text commands to control characters and influence the environment, in a way are are doing the same with some versions of video games. Video games are an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device such as a TV screen or computer monitor. In both cases the player is making choices to determine the outcomes of their experience. Involving images makes interactive fiction aesthetically pleasing to the user. With the advancement of new technologies it is reasonable to see that Interactive Fiction is moving away from a text UI and making it more entertaining to the user.

A visual novel is an interactive game, featuring mostly static graphics and most often using anime style art or occasionally live action skills. Like video games and interactive fiction, visual novels respond to the user input you provide. Visual novels are more like interactive fiction because most of the time is spent reading and making a choice based off what you have read so far and then the continuing story is affected by the choices you made.

Ingress is a type of ARG (Alternative Reality Game). Ingress gameplay consists of capturing portals, portals are in places of cultural significance. There are two sides you can choose from in the game the 'Enlightened' or the 'Resistance'. The Enlightened fight believing their actions will uplift humanity and bring about the next chapter in human evolution. The Resistance believes that is it protecting humanity from Shaper ingression and preserving humanity's freedom.
